  • Description: Caption "Lucky Bean seeds needed. Sir. I have received an appeal from Cape Town for these seeds. Large quantities are required to obtain a tissue plasminogen activator which will be used to manufacture a substance being used experimentally to dissolve blood clots. It the experiments come up to expectations a new drug will be produced for heart attack victims. I have seen many 'kaffirboom' trees in Grahamstown and I appeal to your readers to collect the seeds and leave them at the reception desk of Settlers Hospital. We will forward them to Cape Town. It was installed by the Voortrekker leader, Andries Pretorius, at his farmnear Weenen and in 1938 was placed in the garden of the Weenen Museum. It was brought to Pietermarizburg for rebuilding and restoration. As sneezewood is rare in South Africa, trees were specially cut and cured in Transkei to restore the wheel. The Natal Witness. S.A. In the northwestern part of St. George's Park, Port Elizabeth against the fence of the granstand at the Union Cricket Ground is an oak tree bearing a plate: 'This tree was planted by Nathaniel Adler, Esq. on the occasion of the visit of H.R.H. Prince Alfred, August 6th 1860'. This tree has therefore been there fro 117 years, but it is a very poor specimen of oak with a weak spread of branches, certainly not a good example for its age. It is typical oak".
