Towards the end of the first item, one string went out of tune, as the small wooden bridge, with which each string is tuned separately, slipped inwards.   • Description: Some of the best wood for making Timbila notes, grows in the district of this Chief, Regulo Canda. His orchestra, perhaps as a direct result, has been noted for its tone quality. His district includes part of the sea coast and is covered with thick bush with many cashew nut trees. It will be noted that the spelling of the titles of the movements changes with the dialect of the district. In the west it is 'Wemiso' while further east it is 'Mwemiso'. Four movements from the Ngodo xylophone orchestral dance of Regulo Canda with 10 to 19 xylophones and 1 or 2 rattles. (-12.54-).

  • Description: A daughter weeps for her father whom she will never meet again. 'Bia' means 'a song' and 'Kpe' means 'tears'. Literally - a song of tears. The song is sung around the body of the dead person. There is little to indicate from the style and manner of singing that they indicate sorrow or mourning. To an outsider, Zande mourning songs sound as unconcerned with death as similar songs in other African tribes. Mourning song.

  • Description: "When we harvest our crops we shall all enjoy dancing the Mlekule." Mlekule is a dance perfromed for the chief at his village. The microphone started beneath the instrument and was moved above when he started singing in order to show the difference of tone between the upper and lower surfaces of the resonator. It is interesting to note that unlike the Likembe Mbira further south, the resonator of this instrument is broader at the top than at the bottom, i.e. the bridge end is the broader. The scale was:- 332, 308, 280, 252, 228, 204, 184, 166 vs. Self delecatative tune, with Marimbe Likembe, box resonated, 18 notes.

  • Description: His Bango is unusual in that it has two tin resonators, one at each end. He played the strings with his left hand and beat a simple pulse on one of the resonators with his right hand and miming the action at the word "Ndito", 'truly'. For the second song he turned his Bango round and held it at right angels pointing away from him touching the strings with his left hand and striking them with his right.
