Smith Institute of Ichthyology; No. 35 , A new species of angelfish is described from three specimens collected in 30 m off Durban, South Africa. The distinction of the genus Apolemichthys is discussed, and an annotated checklist of the pomacanthids of the Western Indian Ocean is presented. The first positive record of Centropyge bispinosus (Gunther, 1860) from southern Africa is reported, based on a specimen collected at Sodwana Bay (27°30’S).
